Campbellford and District Horticultural Society ....serving all of Trent Hills, holds its brief business meeting and mini-show followed by it's monthly speaker program. Members and Guests are welcome. Annual Membership is $20. First in-person meeting is free for new guests. Christ Church Anglican at 154 Kent Street in Campbellford, is wheelchair accessible.

Topic: Invasive Jumping Worms A presentation on invasive worms, to alert us to the threat and to instruct us how to minimize the risk of introducing them to our gardens. - How to recognize invasive jumping worms - The tell-tale signs of their damage to soil structure and how it impacts gardens and forest ecosystems - Their lifecycle and why it makes control challenging - What preventative measures gardeners can take now to avoid introducing this invasive pest into their gardens - What controls are being tested by researchers and how else can gardeners prevent their spread. |

Speaker: Ryan Viera
Topic: Vermicomposting Ryan Viera is a dedicated worm farmer based in Trent Lakes, just outside of Peterborough, Ontario. His journey into the world of composting and natural fertilizers began in 2019 when he started his red wiggler farm. Driven by a desire to manage waste sustainably and enhance soil heath, Ryan has since become an advocate for vermicomposting. Ryanb will share his insights on what vermicomposting is, how to start, and the substantial enrivonmental and gardeing benefits it offers inspiring audiences to explore sustainable practices in their own gardens. |

Topic: May We Celebrate Spring After a 23 year career as a florist, Valerie's love of flowers is now her full-time hobby. Just in time to inspire us for next month's Flower Show. Valerie will share her passion for flowers and floral design with a Demonstration of Basic Design Principles using her own flowers. Members are invited to bring some of their blossoms to contribute to Valerie's demonstration. |

TOPIC: Restoration of tall grass prairie, savanna, oak woodland and sand barren habitats in the Rice Lake Plains. Ewa works for the Nature Conservancy of Canada as the Conservation Biology Coordinator for the Rice Lake Plains- Lake Iroquois Plain in Northumberland County. With a team of devoted biologists, she helps to care for the rare tall grass prairie, savanna, oak woodland, and sand barren habitats. One of her favorite restoration tools is prescribed fire. |
