Another Updated Message from our President, Catherine Jefferson
Dear Members and those interested in Joining the Campbellford & District Horticultural Society
I would like to keep you updated on society activities as we continue through this unique time in our lives. As you are aware, we had to cancel the Spring Plant Sale, the Garden Tour and the Garden Party. These events are sources of income for the society as well as tend to bring gardeners together in camaraderie by sharing information and plants.
As we are part of a larger group, District 4, we have been keeping them apprised of our activities and overall working with them to identify where we have financial losses and/or have not the same number of volunteer hours as in the past. These volunteer hours aid us in obtaining grants.
We are unable to access our meeting venue (Jenkins Hall) at this time and are in contact with them as to when they may open up and we can resume meetings.
We will be trying to keep you updated through the website, e-mail, and social media. If you have any questions about membership, gardening etc. please send them along and someone will try to aid you. Muriel still has her radio program running and is another excellent source of information.
The Executive is aware that without meetings we sometime drift away. We want to keep you engaged so any ideas are welcomed. Joan Martin, who is responsible for membership, will be happy to provide and receive your ideas.
As a note - although the Horticultural Society had to cancel its plant sale in spring, Joan Martin and a couple of other members got together (following all suggested protocols) and held a plant sale at Joan’s location. The funds collected went to the Society. Thank you to those who participated. Although not confirmed yet, something similar may occur in September, so keep reading the website!
Theresa Miller and her crew are maintaining the various beds around town with written permission from the municipality as a requirement for working on public lands. Kudos to her and her team for working hard in this hot weather!
The Executive hopes to meet in mid August with news at that time about the status of the pandemic and how it may continue to cause us to cancel events. We hope we can continue with a plant sale, Pumpkin Contest, speakers, etc.
Please visit our social media site and the website and keep your neighbours posted as to activities. www.DownTheGardenPath.ca and TrentHillsGardens@gmail.com
Thank you to Trudy Neumeyer and Cathy Shannon for their work on the website and social media sites.
Continue to keep safe by social distancing and wearing a face mask.
Sincerely, Catherine Jefferson President Campbellford and District Horticultural Society
The Campbellford and District Horticultural Society, serving all of Trent Hills, is made up of people just like you. We are all at different stages of the 'gardening curve'. Some of us are just beginners, while others are well seasoned, but we all have much more to learn. That is why we love getting together to learn from each other and from our monthly speakers. Besides our regular monthly meetings on the 1st Monday - February to June & September to December, we have the following Annual Events: May & September Plant Sales, July Garden Tour, August Garden Party, and an October Pumpkin contest.
Campbellford is more beautiful because of the beds we plant and tend. Our children are encouraged to take part in horticultural interests as well. Each year, we give a scholarship to a graduating student who is furthering their education in a horticultural field.
Please Join Us for some Fun!! Encourage your children and grandchildren to be great gardeners!
